Boating Trip: St Augustine

My favorite boating trip! A leisurely cruise up the intercostal waterway to the oldest city in the nation. You’ll see lots of wildlife and beautiful homes. The water is calm since this is one of the narrowest stretches on the intercostal.

Destination: St Augustine, offering great restaurants, beautiful sites and an abundance of history. Pull your boat up to the municipal marina where you can walk to restaurants, shops, the Fort, Flagler College and much more. See link on left

Duration: About 1 hour from Palm Coast Bing Park

Launch Ramp: Bing Park, Palm Coast, see link on left

St Augustine Municipal Marina:  South side of Bridge of Lions 111-E Avenida Menendez, St Augustine 904-825-1026 Rates are only $4.00/hour!

Time to use the boat, plan a trip!

I didn’t know my friends were interested in boating until one asked me “when are you going to invite us on the boat?” It never occurred to me that they were interested!

So I sent out an email and invited 5 couples, figuring that some can’t make it and some wouldn’t want to go. Boy was I wrong! They all made it. I recently upgraded to a 22’ pontoon, so we had the room.

I love music and installed a new stereo with amp/speakers and a sub-woofer. This made the trip great. We all enjoyed great music and got to catch up on each other’s lives.

We started out at Bing Park and met at 9am. Nice ramp and they have bathrooms too. We cruised past Fort Matanzas, Matanzas inlet, an abundance of wildlife and stopped at Caps Restaurant for lunch (just north of St Augustine). Then we pulled into the St Augustine Marina and went through town and stopped for coffee and dessert.

On the trip back we took a cruise down the San Sebastian River and checked out that area.

About the only thing to worry about is the current. So before docking, check the current direction and try to motor into the current and have some ropes ready to throw to the docking crew from the marina. My prop found some shallow areas right in the center of St Augustine, inland of the inlet. Just stay near the channel markers and you’ll be fine.
