Mechanical Inspection Reports
What is a mechanical marine inspection?
- Nobody wants to buy a LEMON! Boat Tune experts provide a service which gives you, the buyer, the information you need to make an intelligent decision on whether or not to purchase this particular unit or keep looking for a better deal. The inspection includes information on critical engine parameters such as: compression test, lower unit condition, engine hours, engine hours at each rpm range and boat electrical. We find out what works, what doesn't work, why it doesn't work and what it will cost to fix it. Now you have all the information so you can decide to continue with your purchase, alter your offer, or move on to another boat.
Why is a mechanical marine inspection important?
- Obviously you want to make sure you are getting what you think you are getting. How do you know if the motor is stolen? What is the warranty history of this motor? Has it been in the shop every other week? Has it sat around a lot? Does the lower unit match the motor or did someone just put one on that will fail soon? Is the corrosion level normal? Does it have an abnormal noise? A boat motor may run out fine for a few times and then ZAP, you find out that you bought a LEMON! Inspections are well worth the low cost (see below).
On what kinds of boats do you conduct marine engine surveys?
- All outboard and sterndrive powered boats. Single engine or twins. Trailer able or we go to the boat. We are the ONLY factory authorized dealer for Evinrude, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Mercury, Nissan, MerCruiser and Volvo. We have a MASTER TECH on premises and our other techs are certified and factory trained.
What's covered in your marine engine survey?
- Compression test. Computer codes check. Engine hours. Engine hours @ each rpm range.(a lot of hours at idle do not wear an engine) Engine data including max temperature (overheated?) Anode inspection (most dealers never service powerhead anodes, which can cause for major parts replacement). Lower unit oil check. Prop-shaft bent check. Test run engine. Boat electrical and pumps. Dash gauges and accessories. Cosmetic repair. Trailer inspection.
What happens after the inspection?
- We'll give you the full computer printout to verify our findings. You'll then have all the data values for the engine which you can use to compare to in the event you have a problem in the future. We give you a list of recommendations for maintenance and repairs with a full computerized estimate. We'll give you a 20% off discount on labor if you have us do some of the repairs or maintenance.
